A Kaduna man has collapsed out of joy as his wife makes savings from money given her to cook food and built a three bedroom flat without his knowledge

Juan built a three bedroom flat from the savings without her husband’s knowledge.

Realising that her husband was very extravagant in the way he spends money, Juan began saving from the money given to her to cook and take care of other domestic things.

Determined to surprise her husband, she bought a land at the Sabo area of Kaduna along refinery road and started building.

The house is well built together with fence and water, and no member of her household aware of what was going on.

Two months after completing the house, her husband coincidentally got sacked from his job.

Although the man was in pain for three months, Juan refused to disclose she has built a house.

Worse still, their rent had expired three months before Mr. Joseph Yohana, the husband was sacked.

The landlord, six months after their inability to renew their rent gave them quit notice.

Yohana under the pressure of where to get money to renew his rent was asked by his wife to escort her to see one of her relatives living three miles away from their house.

Yohana who drove the wife in his Toyata Camry car did not know exactly where they we’re going.

On their way, the wife asked him to park, she alighted from the car, went to an empty building and started opening the gate, he asked her, who gave you key to someone’s gate and why are you opening the gate.

Juan who did not listen to the husband, opened the gate and asked him to come in.

When the husband went into the house, she held him and said, “I built this house from the savings made in monies you have been given me to cook and take care of other domestic things”

Immediately, Yohana fell and fainted and was rushed to Kaduna general hospital where he was admitted for a day.

Having recovered from the shock, Yohana said the shock was too much to bear while he collapsed out of joy.

A witness miss Agatha, said the family have since in early February packed into their new house and are living happily.

A call on Executive Arm of Government at all levels to implement existing Health Legislative Framework towards eradicating COVID-19

A call on Executive Arm of Government at all levels to implement existing Health Legislative Framework towards eradicating COVID-19 by Daniel, NANbol Listick Honourable Member Representing Langtang North Central State Constituency and Chairman House Committee on Health, Plateau House of Assembly.
As a public health emergency of international concern, the COVID-19 pandemic has drawn global attention and responses. As of 1st of April, 2020 Nigeria recorded 174 cases of COVID-19 and most countries in Africa have also recoded confirmed cases. Despite the rapid responses, there is need to implement existing health legislative framework and develop other legislative framework that will proffer mid-term and long-term solution in handling infectious and related diseases. It is mandatory to have a clear and comprehensive legislative framework for health system strengthening. This will go a long way to eradicate emerging and reemerging infectious diseases including COVID-19.
The Executive Arm of Government at all levels should implement the Basic Health Care Provision Fund within the context of the National Health Act of 2014. The Basic Health Care Provision Fund will also contribute greatly towards reducing disease burden in Nigeria.
The Executive Arm of Government should improve funding of health care system in Nigeria in order to meet up with provision of Section 14 (2)(b) and 17(3)(d) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as altered stipulate that "the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government" and that "the State shall direct its policy towards ensuring that there are adequate medical and health facilities for all persons.
The Executive Arm of Government should implement to the fullest the resolution reached at the third annual summit of Legislative Network for Universal Health Coverage held November, 2019 at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. If the implementation of these resolutions would have commenced, our health system would have been strengthened towards managing the present pandemic. The present status of our health industry in Nigeria cannot combat infectious diseases adequately.
The Executive Arm of Government should build infectious disease hospitals in each senatorial district. Human resource for health should be recruited to provide quality services in these hospitals. The hospitals should also be equipped with medical commodities.
The Executive Arm of Government on the Plateau and other States across the nation should assent and implement the following Bills geared towards achieving health and related Sustainable Development Goals:
- Etc.
Legislators should continue to work as a big team across the nation through the platform of Legislative Network for Universal Health Coverage to develop additional Health Legislative Framework that will fetch good health to Nigerians. We should conduct quality oversight that will improve our health system. It is our collective responsibility to fight against COVID-19 and other reemerging infectious diseases.
May God help us to serve our Nation as Law Makers.

As Part of efforts towards Preventing the Spread of the dreaded Pandemic Corona Virus also known as COVID-19
Plateau State government is Set to disinfect the State and to achieve that the State has set a total lockdown from midnight Thurday 9th April to Wednesday 15th April 2020,
The State Government has set up 10 mobile courts to try violators of the order.
Commissioner for Information and Communication Dan Manjang disclosed this through a Press Statement Signed by him
He Said the establishment of the mobile courts is meant to ensure enforcement and compliance to the directive of Government which is aimed at protecting the citizens from the Corona Virus Pandemic and also ensuring that the entire State is fumigated.
Members of the public are therefore advised to comply with the "no movement" order while those exempted because of their essential services are to carry their identify cards at all times.
Meanwhile the State has given out situation room Emergency response numbers for members of the public to call should the need arise. The numbers which will be available 24 hours are :
GLO: 07057326212.
ETISALAT: 08186015907.
He Said the Governor has in the meantime appealed to citizens to bear with this unusual situation and make sacrifices because the problem is not peculiar to Plateau State, but is a global challenge as the world battles this pandemic.
While urging security agencies to be firm in enforcing compliance, the Governor wants them to remain professional and observe all rules of engagement warning that any security personnel who overreaches his mandate by engaging in corrupt conduct or brutality will be held accountable.

The Northern States Governor’s Forum on Monday 13th April 2020 met to discuss issues relating to Covid-19 Pandemic and how it is affecting the region with a view to sharing experience and coming up with a coordinated response.
The meeting, which was conducted via teleconference and Chaired by the Forum’s Chairman, Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State, discussed various issues including experience sharing on measures adopted by individual States to deal with the disease.
After receiving reports from various States, the Forum resolved to strengthen preventive measures against the pandemic through enhanced border controls and surveillance as well as greater collaboration to ensure that there is synergy among them in movement restriction.
They noted that so far, the lockdown in some States in the region has had varying levels of success, but also raised concerns that enforcing cross-border movements remains a challenge as some of the cases recorded in some States were imported from outside despite the closure of borders by States.
They agreed that at the moment, each State would adopt the measure suitable to its setting because total lockdown of the region will come at a very high cost since most of its citizens are farmers who need to go to farms since the rains have started.
Another issue discussed by the Northern Governors was the issue of palliatives from the Federal Government where they regretted that so far, no State in the region has received a dime as special allocation despite the fact that some of them have recorded cases while others are making frantic efforts to prevent any outbreak as well as prepare against any eventuality.
This they observed has eaten deep into the pockets of the States as they have spent a lot of money already and may not be able to sustain this for a long time. Since “prevention is better than cure”, they canvassed that the Federal Government grants them some special funds just as it has done to other States.
They mandated their Chairman to liaise with the Federal Government through the Minister of Finance, Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 and the Private Sector donor basket in order to benefit from available palliatives and donations.
As for testing centres, the Governors lamented that the region has no testing centres, which is very disturbing. They resolved to again liaise with the Federal Government to ensure that each State at least gets one testing centre while highly populated ones get two.
The Governors also discussed the economic impact of Covid-19 on the region and decided that they needed to take a wholistic look at the economic prospects of the region with a view to repositioning it for less reliance on Federal Allocation and to prepare for the future by diversifying to areas of comparative advantage such as agriculture, manufacturing, tourism and human capital development.
They consequently set up a 7-man Committee chaired by Governor of Kebbi State Atiku Abubakar Bagudu to fashion out the way forward. Other members are Governors of Kaduna, Sokoto, Kwara, Nasarawa, Jigawa, Gombe and Nasarawa State

The police in kanam local government area has arrested six women syndicate that came back from KANO STATE for violating the border closure directive by the executive chairman of the council, Hon Wokdung Adamu Abbas since the confirmation of covid-19 cases in neigboouring Bauchi State. The chairman confirm the arrest this morning after receiving a report by the committee on border closure between kanam and Bauchi State.
Hon Wokdung lamented the unpatriotic disposition of some citizens in the area for sneaking out of the local government through the bushes mainly in the night despite the total lockdown directives by the state government.
The council chairman described the disappointing situation as unpatriotic and the height of inhumanity considering government relentless effort to preventing the spread of covid-19 pandemic in to plateau State.
The chairman had since directed the security agencies in the council to arrest the six women and the driver for them to undergo FOURTEEN days quarantine period to ascertain their HEALTH status before taking further actions against them.
However, the chairman will like to use this medium to strongly warn all business men and women in the council who patronises the popular kanti kwari market in Kano state to as a matter of urgency, desist from flouting government directives by applying crook means of following alternative routes through the bushes as violators will not be treated kindly.
The statement urged the peace loving people of the council to join hands with government in the fight against the dreaded coronavirus pandemic.
Wokdung also advise all citizens of the council to imbibe the spirit of patriotism by reporting any suspicious and unusual movement of vehicles in their communities especially those living in neighboring Bauchi State.
Bashir Auta:
SSA On Media & Publicity to the Executive Chairman Kanam LGA

MONDAY, 27th APRIL, 2020

1. Fellow Nigerians
2. I will start by commending you all for the resilience and patriotism that you have shown in our collective fight against the biggest health challenge of our generation.
3. As at yesterday, 26th April 2020, some three million confirmed cases of COVID nineteen have been recorded globally with about nine hundred thousand recoveries. Unfortunately, some two hundred thousand people have also diedpassed away as a result of this pandemic.
4. The health systems and economies of many nations continue to struggle as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
5. Nigeria continues to adopt and adapt to these new global realities on a daily basis. This evening, I will present the facts as they are and explain our plans for the coming month knowing fullyfully aware that some key variables and assumptions may change in the coming days or weeks.
6. Exactly two weeks ago, there were three hundred and twenty three confirmed cases in 20 States and the Federal Capital Territory.
7. As at this morning, Nigeria has recorded one thousand two hundred and seventy-three cases across 32 States and the FCT. Unfortunately, these casesthis includes 40 deathsfatalities.
8. I will useam using this opportunity to express our deepest condolences to the families of all Nigerians that have lost their lives loved ones as a result of the COVID nineteen Pandemic. This is our collective loss and we share in your grief.
9. Initial models predicted that Nigeria will record an estimated two thousand confirmed cases in the first month after the index case.
10. This means that despite the drastic increase in the number of confirmed cases recorded in the past two weeks, the measures we have put in place thus far have yielded positive outcomes against the projections.
11. The proportion of cases imported from other countries has reduced to only 19% of new cases, showing that our border closures yielded positive results. . These are mostly fellow Nigerians returning through our land borders. We will continue to enforce land border arrival protocols as part of the containment strategy.
12. Today, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has accredited 15 laboratories across the country with an aggregate capacity to undertake 2,500 tests per day across the country.
13. Based on your feedback, Lagos the State Government and the FCT with support from NCDC is hasve established several sample collection centers in Lagos and the FCT. They are also reviewing their laboratory testing strategy to further increase the number of tests they can perform including the accreditation of selected private laboratories that meet the accreditation criteria.
14. Several new fully equipped treatment and isolation centres have been operationalised across the country thereby increasing bed capacity to about three thousand. At this point, I will commend the State Governors for the activation of State-level Emergency Operation Centres, establishment of new treatment centres and the delivery of aggressive risk communication strategies.
15. Over ten thousand healthcare workers have been trained. For their protection, additional personal protective equipment have been distributed to all the states. Although we have experienced logistical challenges, we remain committed to establish a solid supply chain process to ensure these heroic professionals are can work safely and are properly equipped.
16. In keeping with our Government’s promise to improve the welfare of healthcare workers, we have signed a memorandum of understanding on the provision of hazard allowances and other incentives with key health sector professional associations. We have also procured insurance cover for five thousand frontline health workers. At this point, I must commend the insurance sector for their support in achieving this within a short period of time.
17. Nigeria has also continued to receive support from the international community, multilateral agencies, the private sector and public-spirited individuals. This support has ensured that critical lifesaving equipment and materials, which have become scarce globally, are available for Nigeria through original equipment manufacturers and government-to-government processes.
18. The distribution and expansion of palliatives which I directed in my earlier broadcast is still on going in a transparent manner. I am mindful of the seeming frustration being faced by expectant citizens. I urge all potential beneficiaries to exercise patience as we continue to fine tune our logistical and distribution processes working with the State Governments.
18.19. I have directed the Central Bank of Nigeria and other financial institutions to make further plans and provisions for financial stimulus packages for small and medium scale enterprises. We recognise the critical role that they play in Nigeria’s economy.
19.20. Our Security Agencies continue to rise to the challenge posed by this unusual situation. While we feel deeply concerned about isolated security incidents involving hoodlums and miscreants, I want to assure all Nigerians that your safety and security remains our primary concern especially in these exceedingly difficult and uncertain times. As we focus on protecting lives and properties, we will not tolerate any human rights abuses by our security agencies. The few reported incidences are regrettableregrettable, and I want to assure you that the culprits will be brought to justice.
20. I urge all Nigerians to continue to cooperate and show understanding whenever they encounter security agents. Furthermore, for their protection, I have instructed the personnel of the security agencies be provided with the necessary personal protective equipment for their own protection.
21.22. As we continue to streamline our response in the epicenters of Lagos and the FCT, I remain am concerned about the unfortunate developments in Kano in recent days. Although an in-depth investigation is still ongoing, we have decided to deploy additional Federal Government human, material and technical resources to strengthen and support the State Government’s efforts. We will commence implementation immediately.
22.23. In Kano, and indeed many of other States that are recording new cases, preliminary findings show that such cases are mostly from interstate travel and emerging community transmission.
23.24. Drawing from these, I implore all Nigerians to continue to adhere strictly to the advisories published by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. These include rRegular hand washing, social physical distancing, wearing of face masks/coverings in public, avoidance of non-essential movement and travels and avoidance of large gatherings remain paramount.
24.25. Fellow Nigerians, for the past four weeks, most parts of our country have been under either Federal Government or State Government lockdowns. As I mentioned earlier, these steps were necessary and overall, have contributed to slowing down the spread of COVID nineteen in Nigeria.
25.26. However, such lock downs have also coame at a very heavy economic cost. Many of our citizens have lost their means of livelihoods. Many businesses have also shut down. No country can afford the full impact of a sustained lockdown while awaiting the development of vaccines or cures.
26.27. In my last address, I mentioned the Federal Government will develop strategies and policies that will protect lives while preserving livelihoods.
27.28. In these two weeks, the Federal and State Governments have jointly and collaboratively worked hard on thishow to balance the need to protect health while also preserving livelihoods, leveraging global best practice while keeping in mind our peculiar circumstances.
28.29. We looked atassessed how our factories, markets, traders and transporters can continue to function while at the same time respecting adhering to the NCDC guidelines on hygiene and social distancing.
29.30. We assessed how our children can continue to learn without compromising their health.
30.31. We reviewed how our farmers can safely plant and harvest in this rainy season to ensure our food security is not compromised. Furthermore, we also discussed how to safely transport food items from rural production areas to industrial processing zones and ultimately, to the key consumption centers.
31.32. Our goal was to develop implementable policies that will ensure our economy continues to function with while still maintaining our aggressive response to the COVID nineteen pandemic. These same difficult decisions are being faced by leaders around the world.
32.33. Based on the above and in line with the recommendations of the Presidential Task Force on COVID nineteen, the various Federal Government committees that have reviewed socio-economic matters and the Nigeria Governors Forum, I have approved for a phased and gradual easing of lockdown measures in FCT, Lagos and Ogun States effective from Saturday, 2nd May, 2020 at 9am.
33.34. However, this will be followed strictly with aggressive reinforcement of testing and contact tracing measures while allowing the restoration of some economic and business activities in certain sectors.
34.35. The highlights of the new nationwide measures are as follows;
a. Selected businesses and offices can open from 9am to 6pm;
b. There will be an overnight curfew from 8pm to 6am. This means all movements are will be prohibited during this period except essential services;
c. There will be a ban on non-essential inter-state passenger travels until further notice;
d. There will be Ppartial and controlled interstate movement of goods and services will be allowed to allowfor the movement of goods and services from producers to consumers; and
e. We will strictly ensure the mandatory use of face masks or coverings in public in addition to maintaining physical distancing and personal hygiene. Furthermore, the restrictions of on social and religious gathers shall remain in place. State Governments, corporate organisations and philanthropists are encouraged to support the production of cloth masks for citizens.
35.36. For the avoidance of doubt, the lockdown in the FCT, Lagos & Ogun States shall subsist remain in place until these new ones come into effect on Saturday, 2nd May 2020 at 9am.
36.37. The Presidential Task Force shall provide sector specific details and timing guidelines to allow for preparations by Governments, businesses and institutions.
37. The above are guidelines. State Governors may choose to amend adapt and expand based on their unique circumstances provided they maintain alignment with the guidelines issued aboveon public health and hygiene.
38.39. These revised guidelines do will not apply for to Kano State. The total lockdown recently announced by the State Government shall remain enforced be enforced for the full duration. The Federal Government shall deploy all the necessary human, material and technical resources to support the State in controlling and containing the pandemic.
39.40. I wish to once again commend the frontline workers across the country who, on a daily basis, risk everything to ensure we win this fight. For those who got infected in the line of duty, be rest assured that Government will do all it takes to support you and your families during this exceedingly difficult period. I will also take this opportunity to assure you all that your safety, wellbeing and welfare remains paramount to our Government.
40.41. I will also recognize recognise the support we have received from our traditional rulers, the Christian Association of Nigeria, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and other prominent religious and community leaders. Your cooperation and support has significantly contributed to the successes we have recorded to date. I will urge you all to please continue to create awareness on the seriousness of coronavirus among your worshippers and communities while appealing that they strictly comply with public health advisories.
41.42. I will also thank the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the Presidential Task Force for all their hard work to date. Through this collaboration, I remain confident that success is achievable.
42.43. I also wish to thank corporate organisations, philanthropists, the UN family, the European Union, friendly nations, the media and other partners that have taken up the responsibility of supporting our response.
43.44. And finally, I will thank all Nigerians again for your patience and cooperation during this difficult and challenging period. I assure you that government shall continue to take all necessary measures to protect the lives and livelihoods our citizens and residents.
39. I thank you for listening and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria

Breaking News: STATEMENT BY SENATOR (DR.) ORJI UZOR KALU Abuja, May 8, 2020

Abuja, May 8, 2020
Today, the Supreme Court of Nigeria gave a judgment in my favor, quashing the conviction which the lower court had entered against me. By today's judgment, the Apex court of our dear country affirmed my right to fair hearing and equal protection of the law.
The past five months have been quite a profound period for me. As challenging as that period has been, it has provided me an opportunity to learn invaluable lessons about our country, our peoples, our justice system and the true meaning of love. I mean love for family, love for our country and love for humanity.
I want to use this moment to thank my family, my colleagues, my friends, my supporters, the people of Abia State, and all Nigerians for their unflinching and unwavering confidence and trust in me through the very testing period. We all know today that their prayers have not been in vain. I also use this opportunity to express my gratitude to the Nigerian Correctional Service for the unalloyed professionalism and sincere humanity extended to me by its staff while I was in their custody.
I must accord a special mention to the Justices of our Supreme Court for their unwavering commitment to rule of law. We all stand reminded of the consistent and strategic relevance of the Nigerian Supreme Court in holding this country together, even in moments of great peril. As far back as in the 1971 case of LAKANMI V. ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE FEDERATION, (the Ademola Adetikumbo-led Court) the Nigerian Supreme Court has severally rescued this country from the precipice. Also throughout the dark era of military rule in Nigeria, the Supreme Court neither wavered nor flinched in its commitment to justice and fairness. And despite some moments of distraction and mass hysteria, the Nigerian Supreme Court has remained the veritable compass to the highest ideals of justice attainable in this country. This long tradition of the court was exemplified in today's judgment. I was humbled by the court's boldness and sense of justice as shown in my case.
Overall, my experience tested and reaffirmed my belief and confidence in our country, Nigeria. My case is a true Nigerian story with a bold MADE-IN-NIGERIA stamp on it. It is a story of initial injustice that was caught and ultimately corrected. It is a story of restoration. It is a story of how a wrong was righted and how justice and truth prevailed in the end. It is a story of the power of hope. My case should teach us all that even though we may not get things right at the first attempt, with patience and dedication, we shall get them right eventually. That is the lesson of my case and that is the lesson of our country - that with dedication and patience, we shall place Nigeria in its rightful place eventually.
Before I end, I would like to let it be known that the events of the past five months gave me an added perspective on matters of justice and injustice in Nigeria. I have come to know that the course of justice will not be complete if it stopped at my case. It must continue until it touches the lives of millions of Nigerians who face injustice anywhere in this world. I shall be dedicating my time henceforth to ensuring there will be justice for all Nigerians whether they are in Sokoto or Akwa Ibom or in Lagos or Maiduguri or in Jos or Enugu, or wherever they may be. Justice for one man or for a few people will no longer be enough in this country. A system whereby over 70% of all prison inmates population is made up of people awaiting trial cannot be allowed to continue. Situations where innocent people are falsely charged with murder just to get them out of the way does not dignify our country and cannot continue. Justice must now mean justice for all. That is my pledge to Nigerians.
I look forward to rejoining my colleagues in the Senate as soon as possible.
Thank you and God bless all of you.
